Many people believe email marketing is dead. Others believe social media is the only way to go.

But with algorithms preventing followers from seeing our posts, email marketing can be our saving grace.

And the stats say it all: (Stats are in dollars, but you get the idea!)

  • Email marketing generates $38 for every $1 spent, giving an ROI of 3,800%.
  • 73% prefer communications from businesses to come via email.
  • 59% say marketing emails influence their purchase decisions.

Email marketing certainly isn’t dead.

In fact, it can be one of the most lucrative forms of marketing for any business.

Why email marketing?

Your email list is your business’s biggest asset. With an email list, that data is yours.

You have full permission to enter your subscriber’s inbox, build a relationship with them and shout about your offers.

And when done right, can bring a predictable wave of new customers to your door throughout the year.

With an engaged email list, one email can mean you fill those dog walking, dog training or pet sitting spots, or sell those pet products at the click of your fingers.

Social media is great and all. But your followers aren’t ‘yours’. If that platform were to close down tomorrow, you’d lose access to your online community that you’ve painstakingly grown.

Poof, they’d be gone!

I’m not saying that’s going to happen, but it could. Remember MySpace?

The average reach of a Facebook post is just 2.2%. Email deliverability is 80+% and open rates average at 30%. Which means it’s far more likely your audience will see your marketing messages through email.

Having an email list gives you security, knowing you always have access to hundreds, if not thousands of pet parents that want to hear from you.

And let me tell you something… now that I’m in my 8th year of business, I wish I’d prioritised building my email list from the start.

My audience would now be much bigger, and selling my digital products and services would have been so much easier.

It may have taken a couple of days to set everything up initially, but it would have brought new potential customers into my orbit every week, and without me having to do anything ongoing.

The power of automation

You see, when you have a strategy to grow your email list on automatic, it can take some of the stress out of your marketing.

Suddenly you’re not relying so heavily on frantically posting to social media anymore. You can relax a little knowing that when you have spots to fill or products to sell, you can fire out an email and get some bites.

Because as business owners we’re time poor. But when we put marketing systems in place that run on automatic, it means we free up our time to do the things we enjoy.

But it all starts with a strategy. You need a way to bring people onto your list, and then nurture that relationship when they get there. All on autopilot.

We don’t have to be glued to our computer screens doing everything manually.

There is a much better way!

And it doesn’t have to be soulless or sleazy. You can use email marketing with heart, in a way that feels good.

But many pet professionals still shy away from email because it’s too confusing, too techy, too salesy, or they think it’s too time consuming.

But it’s not any of those things when you have the right support.
